Epizoochoric seed dispersal by bats
Frugivorous bats are recognized for being important partners in seed dispersal mutualism. Due to their impresive diversity and capacity, bats are able to disperse seeds that highly varie in size and weight. Until recent decades, non-endozoochoric seed dispersal by bats have been gaining attenttion, specially because in highly defaunated habitats, small animals such as bats are able to survive and continue performing their ecological services.
Leading by Melissa Rodríguez and in partnership with other colleages and students, this project currently developed in El Salvador and funded by the Rufford Foundation is seeking to continue the task of uncover the importance of some bat species as epizoochoric seed dispersers of multiple Neotropical plant species.
